International Meet of Written Words’ 2012

Bit confusion! I actually mean to say a grand occasion for the book-lovers city of Kolkata International Kolkata Book Fair”-2012, at Milan Mela ground, organized by the Publishers and Booksellers Guild, spread of 18 acres of land (opposite Science City), which although inaugurated on 24.1.12 actually opened for visitors from 25th, a twelve days meet giving opportunity to attend and manage “Pollution free Minds”…

Every year, I try to attend this mega event having a old passion & affinity, where I was involved during association with newspaper till late eighties.

This time I have the privilege and on 27th January’ 2012 reserved a day for the visit to move around, watch, search & pick…as per likes.
This year the 36 th Book fair is gifted to grace its first “Kolkata Literary Meet”, likely to be a stage for literature confluence and meeting minds of several Authors & Intellectuals of International & National prominence, including Vikram Seth, Chetan Bhagat, Amish Tripathi, Imran Khan and so on…
Besides, Rabrindranath Tagore’s and Swami Vivekananda’s 150th Anniversary,  certainly going to enrich the environment through proposed lectures & seminars.

Come on follow me to enter the fair:

At different locations live TV channels crews been seen..

Now, four hours is over let's come out for the next commitment. There is no entry fee, so invited for visit free of cost :)

Practically, one day visit is insufficient for the purpose, because about 785 stalls being accommodated this year, focal theme country is ‘Italy’, as such Inaugurated by famous Italian author “Beppe Severgnini” along with CM of West Bengal, Miss Manta Banerjee & other dignitaries. Definitely, having every element of Artistic & Cultural encounters during this period…

Anyway, those who can’t avail the scope may find some idea through given visual clipping of my visit there…
In front of American Pavilion, seen Tracy Lee Slum (an international recognized street painter of America), weaving her creativity ‘Chalk Art’-3D image of ‘Gandhi’(not completed)…An art of Anamorphic projection. She holds the Guinness World record for largest street painting...
Ends! with a quote from fair site...

Thanks! Wish to meet more books and be bookworm...

Thank you so much for sharing this post. This is the one thing that I miss the most about being in Kolkata. Your pics and your description brought old memories rushing back. If thereis anything that captures the spirit of Kolkata in one place/event/thing, it is this, truly. Did you go at a time when the crowd was less or are there really less people visiting the boi mela these days?

@ Subhorup Dasgupta,
Thanks a lot for expressing genuine nostalgia about this Book Fair. I completely agree with your conclusion.
I mentioned it's on 27th. and my entry to the ground was immediately after opening at 12.00 noon, where general public reported little late. In between the things happens:)
Actually! huge crowd..
